TalentsGrid vs ChatGPT: screening CVs in a general chat or in a workspace built for it

Should I screen CVs in ChatGPT or in TalentsGrid?

ChatGPT is a flexible general assistant, and many recruiters paste CVs into it. TalentsGrid is a workspace for that job: it scores each CV against saved criteria with fixed math, quotes the CV for every requirement, keeps candidates together and waits for your approval before saving. Use ChatGPT for open-ended drafting, TalentsGrid for shortlists you must defend.

Why compare the two

A general AI chat and a recruiting workspace can both read a CV. They differ in what happens around the reading.

  • Method

In a chat, the rubric lives in your prompt. In TalentsGrid, the job's criteria are saved and the same arithmetic is applied to every CV.

  • Evidence

In a chat, you can ask for quotes, and you check them yourself. In TalentsGrid, each requirement shows its quote and unsupported matches are dropped.

  • Records

A chat answers in text. TalentsGrid keeps candidates, jobs, versions and stages in one workspace, and writes only after you approve.

ChatGPT and TalentsGrid side by side

A general AI chat such as ChatGPT compared with TalentsGrid
Feature ChatGPT (any general AI chat) TalentsGrid
Who it's for Anyone: writing, research, analysis, including CV questions Freelance recruiters, solo TA and small teams screening CVs for jobs
Pricing model and entry price Not compared on this page. Check the provider's own pricing page Flat monthly price, not charged per member. Free $0, Pro $4.99/month, Business $29.99/month. 150 AI credits a month on Free
AI CV scoring No fixed scoring method. You write the prompt and choose the rubric each time Built in. Each CV is scored against the job's graded requirements. About 1.5 seconds to score one CV against a job
How the score is explained Whatever the answer says, in the format you asked for A quote from the CV for each requirement and responsibility, with a published formula: 60% skills, 40% responsibilities
Evidence quotes per requirement You can ask for quotes in the prompt. Nothing checks them for you Built in. A match the AI claims with no sign in the profile is thrown out
Consistency Wording and ratings can differ between runs. We have not measured this The AI finds evidence, then plain code computes the score, so the same evidence gives the same score
Candidate memory A chat keeps conversations. It is not a candidate pipeline with jobs, CV versions and stages Candidates, jobs, CV versions, criteria versions and stages live in one workspace with an AI activity log
Data storage and export Pasting a CV sends candidate data to the tool's provider. Check that tool's data settings before you paste CVs in your own Google Drive or managed storage. CSV export, Google Sheets sync. TalentsGrid does not use your CVs to train AI models
Human approval of AI actions In a plain chat, answers come back as text, so you copy results across by hand Every create, update, import, stage move and outreach email waits for your approval as a preview

Where TalentsGrid is different

  • One method every time

In a chat, the rubric lives in your prompt, and a slightly different prompt gives a different ranking. TalentsGrid saves the job's criteria as a version, grades each requirement core, important, supporting or minor, and applies the same arithmetic to every CV.

  • Quotes you can check

TalentsGrid shows the sentence from the CV behind each requirement. If the AI claims a skill and the profile has no sign of it, the claim is removed. In a chat, you can ask for quotes, but you have to read the CV yourself to confirm them.

  • A shortlist that remembers

Candidates, jobs, CV versions, stages and the AI activity log (model, result, cost) sit in one workspace. Compare two to five candidates side by side and re-rank by typing "TypeScript is a must".

  • Gaps become interview questions

What the CV does not show is marked unproven and turned into a question with weak, fair and strong answer guides. Questions are not editable today.

  • Control of your data

Keep CVs in your own Google Drive or managed storage, export to CSV or Sheets and leave whenever you like. TalentsGrid does not use your CVs to train AI models.

  • AI proposes, you approve

The AI never accepts or rejects a candidate. Writes arrive as a preview.

When ChatGPT is the better choice

  • You need a general assistant for writing, research, brainstorming or analysis across your whole job, not only screening.
  • You screen a few CVs now and then and a saved pipeline would add nothing.
  • You want to explore a question with no fixed format, such as "how would a hiring manager read this career gap?"
  • You need to edit generated text freely, interview questions included. TalentsGrid's interview-kit questions are not editable today.
  • You already use ChatGPT and want one tool, accepting that you build the rubric and keep the records yourself.

Switching from copy-paste screening

Take the CVs and notes you already keep in a spreadsheet and import them as CSV into TalentsGrid: drop the file into the chat, review the preview and approve it before anything is saved. Then paste your job description and let the copilot build the graded requirements. You can keep using ChatGPT for drafting alongside it. TalentsGrid does not offer a migration service.

Frequently asked questions

Can I screen CVs with ChatGPT?

Yes, many recruiters do. You paste a CV and a job description and ask for a ranking. The limits are practical: the rubric lives in your prompt, nothing stores candidates between sessions as a pipeline, and you must check any quotes against the CV yourself. TalentsGrid builds those steps into one workspace.

Does ChatGPT give the same score each time?

Language models can word and rate things differently from run to run, and we have not measured ChatGPT on CV scoring. In TalentsGrid, the AI finds evidence and plain code computes the score from it: 60% skills and 40% responsibilities. The same evidence gives the same score.

Is it safe to paste candidate CVs into ChatGPT?

That depends on the data settings of the tool and on what you promised your candidates. Read those settings before you paste a CV into any AI chat. TalentsGrid does not use your CVs to train AI models and lets you keep CVs in your own Google Drive.

How is TalentsGrid different from ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a general assistant. TalentsGrid is a recruiting workspace with saved criteria, a fixed scoring formula, a quote from the CV for each requirement, candidate and job records, an AI activity log and approval previews. It is narrower than ChatGPT on purpose, and it is meant to produce a shortlist you can defend.

Can I use both?

Yes. Use TalentsGrid to score CVs, keep candidates and prepare interview questions. Use ChatGPT for open-ended writing or research. Nothing in TalentsGrid stops you from copying text elsewhere, though pasting candidate data into any tool is your call, so check that tool's data settings first.

Does TalentsGrid work in Vietnamese?

Yes. The app and the copilot work in Vietnamese and English, and the copilot answers in the language you write in. Talent mapping, for IT roles only, searches five job sites and gives salary bands in VND.

Run one CV through both and compare
